Set up Browser Rules in Chrome and Edge, managed from the admin console.

Policy tester

Test your policies against a website, file or clipboard action, before your users meet them.

Open it from Protection, Policy tester, or with the Test button on any policy page. It decides as a browser would, with the extension's own rules. Testing changes nothing, and nothing is recorded.

What you choose

  • Policies: the published policies, or your unpublished changes. Test changes before you publish them.
  • Who: No user is a browser that isn't signed in, or whose user isn't known yet. Only policies for all users apply. Select a user counts their groups too. Select a group tries a group policy before anyone is in the group.
  • Test action: a website visit, a download, an upload, a paste, a user-initiated copy, an automatic write (a website copying text) or a clipboard read.
  • The details: the website, and the file names or text to check. For a download, add the page it starts on. For a .zip, list the files inside, or choose password-protected, damaged or too large to check.

The text you test stays in your browser.

What you see

  • The outcome: Allowed, Warned, Blocked, or Allowed and recorded (an Audit policy matched). Not checked means the website is in Exclusions.
  • The policy that decided, with a link to it, and its reason. If no policy matched, the list's own default applies.
  • The message the user would see, as your template shows it.
  • What the audit log would record, following your Privacy settings.

It tests with the newest version of the extension. Browsers still on an older version update by themselves.
