Browser Rules help

Set up Browser Rules in Chrome and Edge, managed from the admin console.

Website lists

Groups of websites, such as AI assistants, that download, website and clipboard policies can use.

  • In a policy: tick one or more website lists. Websites of the policy's own are then optional.
  • Subdomains included: each website in a list covers its subdomains, so chatgpt.com also covers www.chatgpt.com.
  • Try a website: type an address to see whether a list covers it.
  • Deleting a list: only once no policy uses it.

Built-in lists

Browser Rules keeps these up to date. Browsers get each change within a few minutes.

ListCovers
AI assistantsPopular AI chat assistants, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot.
Personal file sharingWeTransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive, personal OneDrive and similar.
Personal webmailGmail, Outlook.com, Yahoo Mail and similar. Work Outlook (Microsoft 365) isn't included.
Social mediaFacebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and similar. LinkedIn isn't included, as many people use it for work.

A built-in list can't be edited. Make a copy gives you one you can change, but the copy no longer gets our updates.

Example: one approved AI assistant

  1. A website policy that allows your approved assistant, such as copilot.microsoft.com.
  2. Below it, a policy that warns on the AI assistants list, with a message such as "Use Copilot for work, as set out in our AI policy."

The first policy that matches decides, so the approved assistant is allowed and the others show the warning.
