Browser Rules help

Set up Browser Rules in Chrome and Edge, managed from the admin console.

The extension / Getting started

Try it on one computer

Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store. It protects that browser straight away with the built-in defaults.

Chrome

  1. Open Browser Rules in the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Select Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
  3. Optionally pin it: select the puzzle piece in the toolbar, then the pin beside Browser Rules. The toolbar button shows your latest download and links to its settings.

Edge

Edge installs Browser Rules from the Chrome Web Store too, so it is the same extension in both browsers.

  1. Open the same Chrome Web Store page in Edge.
  2. If Edge asks, select Allow extensions from other stores, then Allow.
  3. Select Get (or Add to Chrome), then Add extension.

What happens next

The default policies apply at once: dangerous file types are blocked (downloaded directly or inside ZIPs), so are ZIPs inside ZIPs, and malicious commands are kept out of the clipboard. Then check it's working.

Installed by hand, people can switch the extension off or remove it. To prevent that, install it with your device management: see Install for your organisation. To set your own policies, enrol it in the admin console.
