Test Browser Rules

Download this file on a computer whose browser has Browser Rules installed. It should be blocked.

What should happen

  • With Browser Rules: the download is blocked, with your organisation's message. It names test-invoice.vbs, a script inside the ZIP. If the browser is enrolled, the block appears in the admin console's audit log within a minute, and the Overview says "Blocked and recorded."
  • Without Browser Rules, or with its default policy switched off: the ZIP downloads. The script inside is made only of comments, so opening it does nothing.

Why a script in a ZIP

Attackers put scripts and programs inside ZIP files to get them past email filters and download checks. Browser Rules opens ZIPs and checks every file inside, so this test shows that check at work.

Nothing was blocked?

  • Check the extension is installed and has its policies: see Check it's working.
  • In the admin console, check the default policy "Block dangerous file types" is on, under Downloads.
  • Check this website isn't one of your excluded websites.
